Contact your BRACE Advisor
All high school students need a plan for after graduation. Each year, too many students graduate high school without a plan, and unfortunately spend a lot of time trying different things, and often don't accomplish as much as they could.
Take the time to schedule a one-on-one appointment with your BRACE Advisor. Your advisor will go over different post-graduation options, many of which you did not previously know about. Your advisor can also give you important class recommendations for your high school years, making that one-on-one appointment even more important.
Remember that knowledge is power, and the more knowledge you posses, the better equipped you'll be for life after graduation.

Frequently Asked Questions |
How and when do I apply for a Bright Futures Scholarship? |
Students must apply during their last year in high school or forfeit all future eligibility for a Bright Futures Scholarship.
A student who receives a Bright Futures award and attends an out-of-state postsecondary institution and then returns to Florida to complete his/her education within three years may apply for reinstatement of the original award.
In order to receive funding for a Florida Bright Futures Award, a student must be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. The postsecondary institution the student attends is responsible for making residency and citizenship determinations. Follow this link to apply online. |
What are the academic requirements? |
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program consists of the three awards. Each award has its own academic eligibility requirements, award amounts and funding length. A student may receive funding for only one award. The highest award earned by the student will be selected. Follow this link to view requirements. |
How and when will I be notified of my award? |
Early evaluations:
All students whose transcripts are submitted for an official early evaluation (based on academic progress in the middle of the last year of high school) will receive either an award or an ineligibility letter from the Florida Department of Education.
End of year evauluations:
If a student's transcript is submitted for an official evaluation after his/her last term in high school, the student will receive an award (or ineligibility letter) in August only if he/she did not receive an early evaluation or if the student's award status has improved since the early evaluation.
The award (or ineligibility letter) will be mailed to the address listed on a student's Florida Financial Aid Application within three weeks of the date his/her transcript is officially evaluated by the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program. |
What are the enrollment requirements to receive my Bright Futures funding? |
Requirements are as follows: - A student must enroll for a minimum of six non-remedial semester hours (or the equivalent in quarter or clock hours) per term by the end of the drop/add period. However, if a student has fewer than six total hours remaining on the scholarship or needs fewer than six hours to complete up to the first baccalaureate degree (or needs fewer than six hours to complete his/her first Associate Degree), the student may enroll and receive funding for fewer than six hours.
- A student may choose to receive funding for one or more terms during the academic year (fall through spring).
- A student must be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, as determined by the student's postsecondary institution.
- A student must enroll as degree- or certificate-seeking.
- A student must apply to reinstate his/her award within three years of high school graduation and receive initial funding the immediate subsequent academic year. An initially eligible student who enlists in the military immediately after high school graduation begins his/her three-year period upon date of separation from active duty.
Note: Eligibility for the award begins in the fall term of each academic year.

How are Bright Futures funds dispursed to me? |

The institution is provided with all eligible students' names and social security numbers electronically. The school may also contact the Office of Student Financial Assistance.
After the end of the drop/add period, funds are either applied to the student's account at the institution or given to the student in a check. |

If I have not used my Bright Futures Scholarship within the last year, how do I reinstate it? |

Select State Grants, Scholarships & Applications, Apply Here, and then Reinstatement/Restoration Application (or use the direct link above). Please note that the academic year for which a student is applying is at the top of the application.
The Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) recommends that applications be submitted by July 1 for a timely fall disbursement or by December 15 for a belated fall or timely spring disbursement. The deadline for submission of 2005-06 academic year reinstatement applications is May 30, 2006.
