The College First Program is a new Army National Guard enlistment option, which makes it possible for you to reach college goals while serving in the Guard. This option provides qualified high school graduates and graduating seniors, with no prior military service, the opportunity to complete up to two years of full-time schooling, uninterrupted by deployment, while serving in the Guard.

Earn over $2,000 per month
- Up to 2 years of non-deployment following completion of Initial Active Duty Training
- Up to $20,000 Enlistment Bonus
- $20,000 Student Loan Replacement
(must have pre-existing loans)
- Basic Educational assistance of $297 per month- Montgomery G.I. Bill Selective Reserve (MGIB-SR)
- Additional Educational assistance of $350 a month - MGIB Kicker (in addition to the MGIB-SR, & is available to those enlisting in a critical MOS & assigned to a qualified unit)
- 100% College Tuition Assistance, up to $4,500
a year (Federal)
- State Tuition Assistance (100%) for Public Schools

Train part-time, study full-time
You can serve your country while attending school full time. If you join the Guard while you are still in high school, you will be able to complete most of your Military obligation by the time you graduate from college. |

When you complete Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training, you will be eligible for the Montgomery G.I. Bill and the Army National Guard College Fund, which is the Guard's supplement to the Montgomery G.I. Bill.
Many of your educational benefits kick in as soon as you enlist. These include free SAT and GRE testing, CLEP exams and Federal Tuition Assistance.
The Army National Guard funds up to 100% of tuition costs and fees, not to exceed $250 per semester hour and will be limited to $4500 per person per fiscal year. Consult your local recruiter for the policy for the current fiscal year. Tuition Assistance may be used in addition to the Montgomery G.I. Bill, Army National Guard G.I. Bill Kicker, Active Duty Montgomery G.I. Bill and Pell Grants

The Army National Guard also offers the Selective Reserve Montgomery G.I. Bill, a tuition assistance program to help with college expenses. This benefit pays you a stipend, up to $297 a month, while attending college (or other approved technical school). Over a period of 36 months, you can receive up to $10,692 . |
Who doesn't need more money?
Transitioning from the educational world to the real world can be difficult, and one of your biggest sources of stress will be finances. Working part time for the Guard will allow you to continue to develop your private sector career while the supplemental paycheck you earn will allow you to live the lifestyle you deserve.
Montgomery G.I. Bill, Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) The Army National Guard offers the Montgomery G.I. Bill, Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR), a tuition assistance program to help with college expenses.
This benefit pays you a stipend, up to $309 a month (for full-time enrollment), while attending college (or other approved technical school). Over a period of 36 months, you can receive up to $11,124.
The Montgomery G.I. Bill, Selected Reserve may be used in addition to the 100% Federal Tuition Assistance Program and the Army National Guard G.I. Bill Kicker. Prior service members may also be entitled to the MGIB-SR.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Have a high school diploma or equivalency
- Have a 6-year enlistment obligation
- Must have an MOS or complete OBC (Officer Basic Course)
- Have depleted Active Duty Montgomery G.I. Bill
Montgomery G.I. Bill, Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR) Kicker
The Army National Guard (MGIB-SR) Kicker pays up to an additional $350 a month while attending college (or other approved technical school). Paid as a stipend, this incentive pays up to $12,600 over a period of 36 months.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Enlist/reenlist or extend service in the Army National Guard for six years
- Complete Initial Active Duty for Training or Officer Basic Course
- Have a high school diploma
- Enlist in a valid, vacant position
- For NPS applicants, be a CAT I-IIIA (50 or higher on ASVAB)
- For PS applicants, be MOS qualified
